Diamond Jubilee
Plumpton Parish Council and the Village Action Plan are working closely with people and organisations in the village to create a wonderful 4 days of fun over the Jubilee ‘weekend’ (2-5th Jun 2012). Plans are taking shape so get the date in your diary now! Let’s make this the greatest staycation ever!
The Parochial Church Council is probably the most advanced with their plans with a Flower Festival, a Civic Service and reception on the Sunday 3rd June and an afternoon tea party already planned. That said Jo Dubber (890078) and pals (Glenda Bowden 890347) and Reg Lanaway (890070) are streaking ahead with plans for a recipe book – do contact them; plans for a wildflower meadow are going well and Catherine Jackson (890219) is leading on Jubilee Beating the Bounds walks via the pubs of course!
In the New Year we will be discussing with the school ways in which the children can be involved in the Jubilee. If you have children, run a children’s group or society and want to get involved do contact Jane Shepherd on 891252.
Clare Eastwood (890526) and Kelvin Speirs (890785) are ‘taking charge’ of the Playing Fields -the hub of the celebrations on Monday 4th June. We hope that lots of the clubs and societies will want to have stalls at the fair. Contact Clare or Kelvin with your ideas and offers of help. We are delighted that Ali Christie has agreed to take forward ideas for the procession so do contact him to offer help etc - 890346 or email a.christie@btinternet.com
Working with the University of Sussex a group of Plumpton people are already working on a European Hidden History project for the Jubilee. The project will build on the history of Plumpton with memories from people living and working here. Continuing on the history theme there are plans to encourage people to find out and share the history of their homes. For more information contact Kathy Baker 890508 or email kathy@herplace.co.uk.
A fund raising Jumble Sale will be held in the Village Hall on March 24. Karen Beard has very kindly volunteered help from the WI but we do need an organiser and more help. If you can help please let Carole Nicholson know – 891722 or email carole.nicholson3@virgin.net.
There are many more ideas being discussed and planned and volunteers are needed so do come along to the next meeting on Monday 5th March at 7.30 at the Pavilion – All are very welcome We look forward to seeing you there.
