Environment - Wildlife Team: Overview

 Team Objectives:

The Action Plan undertook to establish a new village society for local environmental and wildlife interests. Indeed, 274 households expressed an interest in such a society.

The new society is called the Wildlife and Habitat Group which will promote understanding, appreciation and conservation of the parish's fauna and flora and their habitats. The launch of the new society coincided with the publication of the results of the recently completed Plumpton Habitat Survey in the form of a digitised map.

The activities include surveys, recording, monitoring, conservation management and education. These include
  • Producing a habitat map which, when completed, will be available for viewing in the Village Hall.
  • Surveying verges in our parish to establish what plant life they contain. We hope that this will help to safeguard their future.
  • Survey of ponds in the parish to identify wildlife they hold.
  • Another survey is planned to establish exactly how many badger setts there are in the parish.
  • Installing nest boxes in All Saints Church tower to encourage Swifts to return and nest .

Team Update:

The society was launched in March 2009 and therefore saw the Action Plan objective to establish such a society completed.

The Group is looking for new members and volunteers to help with their Wildlife and Habitat Surveys.
