Recycling and Village Tidiness Team

Team Objectives

The Team worked with LDC to introduce cardboard collecting bins at the mini recycling centre at the playing fields and has organized a team of volunteers to keep the site tidy. The bins are well-used but the volunteers are kept very busy clearing up.

Please help us maintain the site by taking responsibility for the correct disposal of your rubbish.

  1. Place your recycling in the correct bins. They are clearly labelled.
  2. Do not put paper, magazines, drinks cartons (‘tetra pak’) or plastics of any kind (wrappers, bags, foam packing) in the cardboard bins.
  3. If the bins are full, take your recycling home with you. The bins are emptied regularly, so come back another time or take it to the Lewes or Burgess Hill recycling sites.
  4. Do not leave any recycling outside the bins.
  5. Flatten your cardboard boxes. This is so we can fit as much as possible in the bins.
  6. Recycle glass in your kerbside recycling boxes.
  7. Put your domestic rubbish in your dustbin

The team has also raised awareness of waste and recycling:

We have researched the options for collection of tetra-pak containers, and concluded that it would be too costly for the parish council to fund. The nearest tetra-pak collection facility is at Tesco, Lewes.

We also looked at options for dealing with green waste and concluded that home composting is the best option.

Its main objectives achieved, the group has now merged with the Plumpton Goes Green group.
