Youth Forum Team
The Youth Forum now has a committee of 10 very committed young people from the village, ranging in ages from 11 to 15. We have met twice, and have formed our Constitution, and voted in 4 officers Our overall aim is to work to improve Plumpton for young people, and our objectives are to have a say in the future facilities and opportunities for young people, to fundraise for events, and to find ways of getting young peoples’ voices and heard. Our Chair is Charly Barr-Richardson, and Vice chair is James Honess. Our secretary is Mari Lavelle-Hill with the Treasurer- Murray Hawthorne. We are fortunate to have Sam Whittaker, an experienced Youth Worker to guide us through the early stages, and Carol Turner is keeping a weather eye out as well!
We have already talked to young people, and issues that are important include the plans for the new Pavilion and how to maintain the skate park for use by all. We have also discussed ways of creating opportunities for art and music to flourish in the village. Initial ideas of the possibility of a band practice room, for example have been raised. In addition, we intend to get involved with issues such as recycling.
Team Updates
02 Think Big Fund award.
Plumpton Youth Forum is supported by Sam Whittaker from East Sussex Youth Development Service, and has successfully been awarded a grant from “O2 Think Big Fund” to run and develop a safety campaign in Plumpton. “O2 Think Big” is a grant scheme set up to help young people develop projects by giving them the training and funding to make their ideas work. The forum hopes to increase awareness of safety and provide information for young people and the community to stay safe.
Second Band Night
On Saturday 12th February 2011, Plumpton Village Hall played host to a great night of entertainment, enjoyed by over 200 young people.
The event organised by the Plumpton Youth Forum, a group of 10-15 year olds, was part of the forum’s work to provide fun activities for other young people in Plumpton to take part in.
The large audience was treated to live music from a variety of bands and solo artists.
Band Night
Saturday 5th of February 2011 in the Village Hall. We have have invited past performers and are scouting around for new talent.
