Business Breakfast Thursday 6 October
The Plumpton VAP Business Team held its third Business Breakfast in October. It was hosted by Plumpton Racecourse at the Paddock Restaurant, with excellent locally supplied food generously provided by Bim Patel from our Village shop and Richard Willis of the Half Moon.
Although the 7.30 start was a bit of a stretch for some, around 45 people representing local businesses were there. Over breakfast our guest speaker, Nick Gant, from the University of Brighton, gave a most stimulating presentation on 'Community 21' – a developing web-based information tool for villages and communities, and which can have real value for local businesses. Watch this space!
John Bowden, Gumtree 4x4 ably led a ‘30 Second Session’ – a well-received opportunity for all to advertise their business. Chris Enser from Plumpton Health and Fitness Club kept us up to time with his stopwatch and whistle! Then plenty of time for that all important networking before moving onto our first ever workshop.
Entitled ‘Marketing on a Shoestring’ the one hour workshop offered ideas and tips on how to market and promote businesses with minimum expense.
Alan Rae, from Ai Consultants set the high professional tone of the workshop with a presentation on essential marketing principles for small businesses. Chris Enser followed this with a fascinating insight into how he turned the Health and Fitness Club from financial failure to success. Our last speaker, Don Cranfield, from Plumpton College ably drew together the ‘marketing fit’ for local businesses and the local economy. To finish, Lisa Muschamp, Marketing Manager at Plumpton Racecourse joined the presenters for a very lively question and answer session.
All this for just £10 a head thanks to a most generous subsidy from the Plumpton VAP.
