Station Partnership
Hopefully by the time you read this you will have noticed that the train station buildings have been given a face-lift with a coat of paint, there are hanging baskets and large planters on the platforms, a library facility in the waiting-room, and information boards about the wildflowers. Later in the year there will be more wildflowers, bat-boxes and more information boards. This has all been made possible by sponsorship from Southern Railway, Garden Pride, the Plumpton Village Action Plan and fantastic support and enthusiasm from volunteers.
Thursday 10th June saw the culmination of all this effort come together with the formal launch of the Station Partnership Scheme agreement between Southern Railway and Plumpton. Plumpton is the first station on the London to Lewes line to sign up to the Scheme.
Volunteers and other village residents were joined by Norman Baker, our local MP and Junior Minister for Transport, and executives from Southern Railway.
In toasting the launch, Paul Nicholson, who has led the scheme, particularly thanked Mick Newman, our hard-working station-master, Simon Cullen from Southern, and Sam Bryant, from the Community Rail Partnership, for their support and encouragement to all the volunteers that have already made a real difference to the look of the station and given it a real sense of community pride.
Whilst we have a good number of volunteers involved, the more the merrier – so if you feel inspired and would like to be involved in any way please contact the VAP Business Team on paul.nicholson1@virgin.net, 01273 891725 or email on business@plumptonvap.co.uk
