Gateway to the Downs
Autumn Downland Walk
Sunday 23rd October 2011
A year ago, the village celebrated the launch of 16 new walks leaflets. The walks followed the wonderful footpaths and bridleways in and around Plumpton.
The leaflets have proved so popular that they’ve run out and a 2nd print-run is required.
Funding for the reprint has been secured from Collabor8 and the South Downs National Park Authority
Between 40 and 50 villagers set out with about a dozen dogs in hot pursuit in gloriously warm October sunshine. We met at the Half Moon and set off up Plumpton Bostall at 1.30 - much relief as we reached the top knowing that the worst part was done!
We took in Blackcap and Ashcombe Bottom over the 51/2 mile walk with views north to the Weald and to the South out to sea - stunning - every one of us promising that we must come up to this stunning downland area more often - after all it is on our doorstep!
We returned to the Half Moon at around 4pm for a scrumptious cream tea with trays laden with scones, fig jam and cream - very welcome! And after such a walk - no guilty feelings either!
