Lighting Solutions

Proposed Low Level Lighting in PlumptonAt the time of the original Village Action Plan survey, residents made it very clear that the vast majority of people living in Plumpton (some 70% of households out of a total of 440 that responded) did not want overhead street lighting.  The likelihood is that this is almost certainly the same position!

So please don’t start thinking this article is all about putting in street lights – it definitely isn’t!

What was clear, however, was that some 30% of residents felt that in a very small number of places, visibility at night was poor and would appreciate some thought being given to a low-level lighting solution.  The areas mentioned the most were:
in the pavilion carpark area (22% of respondents) and
on exiting the village hall area and out into Station Rd (24% of respondents) and
a smaller number opposite the church

The Policing & Community Safety Team has been carrying out some research and has found a number of low-key possible solutions – all of which are solar-powered and all throw their light downwards to directly light the footpath.

One example of those available is shown below.

But the Team needs to know what people think. The Team members need to know:

  1. Do people think the pavilion carpark and the village hall areas are a problem on dark nights?
  2. Are there any other areas in the parish that people think should be added to the list?
  3. Would residents prefer nothing at all?

No proposal has been to the VAP Steering Committee or the Parish Council – and nor will it unless the Team receives feedback to the questions above.
