Community Apple Press In Plumpton
The VAP Plumpton Goes Green Team recently received a grant from the South Downs National Park Authority’s Sustainable Communities Fund to buy a community apple press.
The apple press arrived early last month – a bit late for a big community event but the team decided to go ahead with a trial run at the Festive Fair on 26 November.
The longer-term plan is to organise village community apple pressing days in the autumn where we collect and juice unwanted fruit from local apple and pear trees. People can bring their own fruit to juice and we may also bottle some and sell it.
The apple press will also be a community resource for local people to borrow.
It’s a great way to use up local fruit that would otherwise go to waste, and reduce use of imported juice in tetra packs and plastic bottles.
